- See a thing.
- Assert general principle, usually empirically in my experience. “Yeah, this is probably why” is as good as I get.
- Apply principle to get more (or less) of that thing. Hmm. Works or doesn’t.
- Go big or go home.
The key seems to be the willingness to take that second step. Are you willing to may bold, semi-plausible wild-ass guesses (step two) and expose those guesses to sunlight (step three) to see what happens?
